Charwahon ki Pukaar- A poem for Indian Pastoralists

Charwahon ki Pukaar is a beautifully crafted poem created by a group of women scientists from the ICAR–National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, GT Road By-Pass, Karnal, Haryana.

Through gentle yet powerful verses, the poem brings alive the everyday worlds of pastoralists across India. It reminds us that every species carries a story, and that pastoral communities are not only keepers of livestock, but also masters of uncertainty, navigating changing landscapes, climates, and livelihoods with resilience and deep ecological understanding.

The poem moves gracefully between past and future, highlighting pastoralists’ enduring contributions to biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, and future food security. It is both a tribute and a call, rooted in lived experience, collective memory, and hope.
