This workshop, organized by Dr. P. Kabilan, Pastoral Bio-Economist and Founder of Thozhuvam, seeks to highlight the legal, ecological, and community dimensions of protecting commons — particularly grazing lands and waterbodies that sustain Tamil Nadu’s pastoral systems. The event brings together pastoral representatives, environmentalists, farmers, NGOs, legal experts, and researchers, focusing on:
- Recent Madras High Court orders related to commons protection;
- Strategies for restoring and governing grasslands and waterbodies through community participation; and
- Aligning regional initiatives with the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026).
