As the UN prepares to launch the International Year of Rangelands & Pastoralists 2026, attention is turning to one of the world’s most underestimated systems: global grazing lands. Grasslands cover vast parts of the planet and are fundamental to food security, biodiversity, climate resilience and geopolitical stability—especially in times of growing ecological and social pressure.
On 7 January 2026 at 18:00 CET, a new study “Protection and use of global grazing systems” will be presented. This study, commissioned by Martin Haeusling, Member of the European Parliment, explores why sustainable pastoralism and rangeland governance are central to ecological balance, resilient food systems and global security. The study authors, global experts on the topic, will be present.
The event will be online in English and simultaneously translated into German.
