We are pleased to submit the concept note for our upcoming programme titled “Reviving Kadambam Landscapes and Grasslands: Reawakening Madurai’s Ecology”, conducted under Grass Guards – IYRP 2026 (Awareness Initiative – 3). This year-long, state-wide awareness initiative (January–December 2026) aims to promote the conservation, restoration, and community stewardship of grasslands and rangelands across Tamil Nadu.
The programme will be held on 28 March 2026 at 4:00 PM at Idaiyapatti (Velli Malai), Madurai – 625110. It will feature field-based interactions, knowledge-sharing sessions by local conservation volunteers, demonstrations of grassland restoration techniques, and interactive discussions to foster community-led ecological stewardship. Key resource persons include Thamizhthaasan (M. Johnson), Cultural Ecologist, along with local conservation leaders — V. Karthik, Manikandan, M.R. Barathidasan, and V. Rajkumar — from the Idaiyapatti Velli Malai Sacred Grove Forest Conservation Movement.
The initiative operates under the campaign “One Panchayat – One Rangeland / Grassland”, encouraging each Panchayat to identify, protect, and restore at least one local grassland or rangeland as a shared resource for biodiversity, climate resilience, and future generations. This programme seeks to reconnect communities with their natural heritage, enhance ecological awareness, and promote youth and community participation in grassland conservation.
