Half a billion people worldwide depend on pastoralism. The media frequently report on conflicts between crop-farming communities and herders, but rarely on these groups’ mutual exchange and peaceful coexistence. Conflicts are rare where rights are respected. The dossier “We need pastoralists!” - published by LPP, DITSL, FES & MISEREOR with welt-sichten, Germany - aims to mark the IYRP2026 by filling this gap. It reports from India, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya and the Sahel.
