On behalf of UNCCD, WWF, IUCN, GIZ, and ILRI, we are pleased to invite you to join the upcoming Regional Webinar on Sustainable Rangelands and Pastoralism, part of the Regional Virtual Rangelands Webinar Series — Road to UNCCD COP17.
Rangelands — encompassing grasslands, savannahs, drylands, and grazing lands — sustain biodiversity, rural livelihoods, and climate resilience across vast landscapes. Home to over 500 million pastoralists, these ecosystems are vital for food security, culture, and carbon storage. Yet they face growing pressures from land degradation, biodiversity loss, and climate change. The UNCCD COP16 decision (ICCD/COP(16)/24/Add.1) calls on countries to scale up policies and investments to conserve, restore, and sustainably manage rangelands in alignment with Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets and other global goals.
These regional sessions will bring together UNCCD national focal points, government representatives, pastoralists, CSOs, and key stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and identify joint priorities for implementing the UNCCD COP16 decision on rangelands.
The dialogues will provide an opportunity to:
- Explore region-specific challenges and opportunities for sustainable rangeland management and pastoralism;
- Identify policy, financial, and institutional pathways to scale up rangeland restoration and inclusive livestock systems; and
- Strengthen regional cooperation toward the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026.
